Flash Quickie

Good job last night. Below are some other examples of Flash as well as the attached presentation from class.

Important Due Dates:

4.5.12 - Your 5 examples project is due.

4.12.12 - Your Flash "homepage" is due.

Refer to lecture PDF and Assignment matrix for more details.

----------

Assignment:

Assignment 1 - Start your own Flash homepage - Refer to the lecture PDF for details.

For the final assignment, there should be your .swf and index.html file in a folder with your name on it within the assignment folder on the class server. Flash will publish out both a .swf and .html file for your assignment automatically. Put both of these files into your folder.

I'll show you how to add a background color behind your Flash piece as well as how to center it within the browser window when we meet next week.

Assignment 2 - Login to lynda.com and take the Flash essential training module & Creating your website with Flash

Assignment 3 - Find 5 good examples (I mean realllllly good) of Flash design, create a blog using (blogger or word press), post your examples (links and/or image) and write a couple sentences on each of the 5 as to why they’re good. Be prepared to present next class (4.5.12)

Assignment 4 - Handout and electronic templates provided/posted
o Required Reading: “Love of The Internet” – posted PDF

I'll start off our next class answering any questions and reviewing anything that you need more clarification on for the Flash assignment. ALSO, I typical hold a 1 hour Saturday lab class on the weekend before the Flash assignment is due. This will given you some additional time to ask questions and get more detail on techniques and bugs you may have questions about. So start thinking about that if you run into trouble.

Magazine Covers- Next Steps!

Great job on your magazine covers last night. Remember - This is more than just a homework assignment...it's good portfolio filler so go the extra mile.

After our critique last night, you all have refinements to make. Please make those and put the revised PDF (along with the original PDF) in the assignment folder in a folder with your name on it. So your folder should have 2 PDFs - one with yesterday's date on it and one with next Thursday's date on it. No need to print them again. Just make sure that both PDFs have crop and bleed marks on them.

Remember to keep all your files in a folder so they don't get separated from the InDesign doc..otherwise, you'll get low res output.

Any questions? Email me at scout@hoverpod.com.

Great job!

Thx

For 3.22.12

For the class after spring break, your magazine designs are due. Bring the finished file with you to class. I'll explain how to print out files with bleeds and crop marks - and we'll all cut our ads down to size for presentation.

Email me at scout@hoverpod.com if you have any questions.

Have a great spring break!

Clarification on Magazine assignment

Hey there.

I was typing too fast the other day. Remember that the syllabus and matrix are the last word on due dates. I incorrectly had a date on the last blog posting.

Magazine sketches along with your magazine walk thru are due this thursday. Final magazine covers are due 3/22/12. Sorry for the confusion.

Thx

Indesign Lecture

Great job on everyone's iphone applications - really! Make the tweaks we spoke about and put them in your books.

Assignments:

Assignment #1:

Login to lynda.com and complete the indesign CS4/5 essential training exercises. You will need this in order to do much of the assignment.

Assignment #2:

Magazine Cover Design – Following the steps in the lecture deck, design your own magazine cover. DO THE RESEARCH – audit other designs and try to make this a portfolio piece. Sketches AND 3 examples of good magazine cover designs - 3 up on 8.5 x 11 color - 3.8.12.

Final magazine cover due 3.22.12. We will print these out together WITH BLEED ON 3.22.12 - DON'T PRINT THEM OUT BEFORE WE MEET. (which means then need to be printed to next size up from 8.5 x 11) in color AND cut out using an xacto knife. Also, save as JPGs to the class folder. The following week will be an all Flash class but I will also give an example of printing out with bleeds and cutting comps out.
