Revised Syllabus & Assignment Matrix

Here's the revised syllabus based on the 2 sick weeks. I've essentially removed a large project to make the class more manageable and interesting. I'm also attaching an assignment matrix that is useful for reviewing upcoming assignments and due dates. All details for projects and assignments are in the syllabus.

I'll review both of these documents on Thursday. Thanks for your patience.

Poster Assignment

Hi class.

Below is the poster assignment info again. Let me know if you have questions.

-------

Using all you learned from your lynda.com exercises as well as our class walk-thru, think of a simple shape (animal, person, object), find the vector artwork via Google, sketch, scan and use the LiveTrace > Expand feature in Illustrator. Once you have a good vector shape, type up all the attributes for the shape you picked, pick an interesting and relevant font and mask the shape over the type to bring your artwork alive. The poster should be tabloid size (11 X 17) inches / b&w or one color.

Poster should contain the following elements: title, graphic and type specimen family (see example). Your final poster (11 X 17) is due on 2/16/12. This should be completed in Illustrator.

o Required Lesson: “Illustrator CS5 Essential Training”
o Recommended Reading: “Thinking With Type” – Letter 34-58

Sunday Lab/ Going Forward

Hello students.

A couple of announcements:

1. Once again, very sorry about the rough start to this class. I caught both strains of the Norwalk flu that's been going around. I did my best to try and make class but in the end, was functioning on borrowed time. I attempted to come last week and was able to get through my first class but I ended up rushing home sick. I also didn't want to get anyone in the class sick.

I'm back in action and am currently at the lab per my last email to you. Just wanted to be available to answer any questions being we haven't met in the last 2 weeks.

2. As far as assignments - it's unfair for me to have you go ahead into the poster assignment being I haven't discussed or demonstrated the assignment. For our upcoming class on Thursday, 2/9, we'll be critiquing the first assignment (Good/Bad) and taking you through the exercise for your posters which are due the following week.

I've built in extra time to the class to account for missed sessions due to illness, etc. So I'll revise the syllabus with new dates for all the lectures and assignments.

For this coming week, we're going to pick up where last left off by critiquing the first assignment.

Thanks for your patientce. Please feel free to call or email me at scout@hoverpod.com with any questions or concerns prior to this week's class.

Best,
Scout
